Chamber Event Pays Tribute to Local Veterans

More than 100 attendees turn out for our annual Veterans Day Luncheon
NOVEMBER 11, 2024 (Avon, Ohio) — The North Coast Chamber of Commerce held its annual Veterans Day Luncheon, and saw more than 100 attendees pay tribute to our local Veterans.
The event was held on November 11 at Avon Oaks Country Club and featured a keynote address by Patrick McGinty, a Bay Village resident and Army Veteran who runs the military storytelling podcast, “What We Brought Home” (www.WhatWeBroughtHome.com).
During the event, the Chamber paid tribute to six Veterans by presenting them with a quilt made by volunteers from the Quilts of Valor Foundation, a national organization that recognizes the service and sacrifice of those who are serving or have served in the Armed Forces to protect our freedoms.

The “What We Brought Home” podcast provides military veterans with a judgement free forum to anonymously share their most personal stories of war and peacetime, to help both storytellers and listeners find connection and better-cope with the complicated emotions of military service.
Each episode features a different veteran, anonymously sharing a story that they’ve never before shared.
It is patrick’s belief that there is a cathartic healing experience that occurs when you share a story that has had a significant or traumatic impact on your life. And being able to share these experiences anonymously through the format of his podcast allows for an added level of comfort and freedom to express the wide range of emotions and thoughts our veterans come home with.
The podcast strives to create a safe, nonjudgmental atmosphere of understanding, no matter the traumatic experience being recounted, with the ultimately goal of promoting a community of coping and understanding between veterans and civilians alike.
